About MediaToText
MediaToText turns recordings into text. This page explains what it is, what it is not, and how we think about it.
What it does
You upload an audio or video file. You get back text you can read, edit, copy and download — as plain text or as subtitle files with timing.
There is no account, no trial period and no watermark. The limits that exist are technical rather than commercial: one file is processed at a time, so there is a cap on length and on how often one person can start a conversion.
What it is not
It is not a live captioning tool. It works on recordings you already have, not on speech as it happens.
It does not identify who is speaking. The transcript is one stream of text.
It is not a replacement for a human transcriber when accuracy is critical. Automatic transcription is very good at getting the shape of a conversation and unreliable at rare words. If a document must be exact, someone needs to check it.
How we think about your recordings
A recording is often more personal than the person uploading it realises. An interview, a medical appointment, a difficult meeting — these are not neutral files.
That shapes two decisions. We do not ask for an account, because we would rather not be able to link a file to a person. And we do not send file names, file contents or transcripts to any analytics service, because a file name alone can reveal a great deal.
